We have a diverse client base at Athletic Lab. Other than rare exceptions like our Open Gyms or when classes overlap though, most never get the chance to meet others in our training community. I say community because that’s what we are. And unfortunately, some may not have ever even met other athletes or clients outside of those who attend their usual training time slots. So who trains at Athletic Lab? As of today our demographics look like this:
10% off-site athletes who come in for training camps and follow planned training for the bulk of the year
Moving forward we want to build the community so we can all share in our passion for training and development milestones. This was one of the reasons we put in our new wipeboard. The original one (perhaps the world’s largest wipeboard?) is where we put our training records and competition best performances. It’s great as a talking point, keeping track of progress and for letting others know what is possible. Our new wipeboard takes things a step further and provides news from around Athletic Lab, singles out the top client / athlete of the week, and praises top training and competition performances so that we can all share and take pride in what their fellow Athletic Lab trainees are accomplishing. The next step will be to do a weekly feature on an Athletic Lab athlete or client to go over their accomplishments and build our sense of community. We don’t want Athletic Lab to just be a training center….we want it to be an experience.

Yesterday, the Athletic Lab staff spent some time at the Carolina Railhawks Soccer Camp to give a quick instructional session on warming up and running mechanics. The session opened with a question posed to the 40 camp attendees: “Does anyone here who wouldn’t like to be a little faster?” Not a single camper raised there hand. Even the youngest players recognized that speed is important for soccer. It doesn’t matter how skilled you are if you’re not on the ball making the play. This is where Athletic Lab can help. We specialize in making athletes fast. It’s what we do. It’s what we’re most passionate about. And we do it well.
We have several opportunities this summer for athletes to improve their speed - we are hosting 2 speed camps (June 28-July 3; July 5-10) as well as ongoing daily scholastic training. If you feel like you could be faster (and who doesn’t?) sign up for a free trial session today. We’d love to help you reach your performance goals.
The date of our first speed camp is fast approaching. We’re only 1 week away and there are still a couple spots left to fill. This is going to be a great opportunity for athletes of all sports to enhance their speed and learn the fundamentals of training to get faster. Speed is the foundation for success in many sports from soccer to baseball to football. If you don’t have break-away speed you’re not getting touches on the ball, stealing bases, or scoring that touchdown. Our speed camps will be a great hands-on opportunity to work with speed development experts. Led by Mike Young, our team of experts will help you achieve you be your fastest and get ready to make that big play.
Mike Young, the director of the speed camps, has coached some of the fastest athletes in the world from Superbowl champions to Track & Field national champions. Don’t settle by learning speed from a personal trainer or physical therapist. Come to the speed development expert that NFL players, USA Track & Field, the Chinese and South African Olympic committees, and the Carolina Railhawks all trust to get as fast and powerful as possible.
We just wanted to send out another reminder that our Summer training schedule changes tomorrow (June 14, 2010). Here’s the schedule with notable written changes below.
Please note the following changes:
We will have “Open Gym” training sessions that are open to members of the Scholastic Training, Performance Fitness, and Elite Development classes to make up for missed training sessions or provide an alternative training time. For the summer hours, open gym will be available on Wed and Fri at 2 pm; and Tues and Thurs at 5 pm.
The Scholastic Training sessions are now available Mon-Fri at 9:20 am AND 3:30 pm.
The Olympic Weightlifting training sessions are now on Tues and Fri at 6 pm.
The TPI Golf Fitness class is now offered at 12:15 pm on Mon, Wed and Fri.
The Performance Fitness class is now available Mon-Fri at 7 am; Mon, Wed and Fri at 5 pm; and Mon and Thurs at 6 pm
Two weeks ago we experimented with the concept of having a flexible “Open Gym” on Memorial Day. We found it was pretty successful for offering an opportunity for clients and athletes to make up missed workouts or use as an alternative training time. The venture worked so well we’re making it a permanent fixture in our new Summer Schedule. In the Summer schedule, we are offering Open Gym times on Tuesday and Thursday at 5 pm and Wed and Fri at 2 pm. Members of the Scholastic Training, Performance Fitness and Elite Development classes can attend the class. Note that the Open Gym sessions are limited to only 1 hour and the workout must be completed in that time slot. The sessions will be instructed and supervised to the same extent as normal class sessions however there may be clients from other training groups in your session. Because of the fact that there may be multiple groups training concurrently we are limiting the number of clients that can attend any Open Gym session to 6 and it is recommended that users RSVP via our scheduling manager to ensure a trainer is available and the class is not overbooked.
Athletic Lab is pleased to announce their Summer training schedule. The new schedule for classes will begin with the week of June 14, 2010.
